Hideaway Trio are a power trio who blend Blues, Rock and Soul/funk into a sound of their own.

Guitars/vocals -Gareth price

Gareth’s love for the blues is what drives his music but he’s influenced by other music such as rock, jazz, gospel and soul.  Gareth’s key influences as a guitarist are Eric Clapton,  Buddy Guy, Otis Rush, BB King, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Doyle Bramhall II, Rory Gallagher and Duane allman. He  wanted to sing after listening to Ray Charles for the first time. Gareth favours 50s fender stratocaster guitars and 50’s tweed style amps such as fender bassman and deluxe.

Simon Rees  – bass

Simon is one of  finest bass players in the country. A self taught musician who has an incredible talent holding down a solid groove

Tom Vines -drums

Tom is an incredibly musical drummer, driving funky beats mixed with a feel second to no one. His talents have led him to master other instruments such as guitar bass and piano.

The band The Hideaway Trio from Haverfordwest were just warming up. Yes it was loud but not unbearably so and the band were amazing

Son of the legendary Luther Allison, his band were well-drilled, professional and soon filled the dance floor at the DeValence, but for many the night belonged to opening act, Hideaway Trio whose exemplary musicianship and fine selection of material drew well deserved applause.

They are a locally based band whose superb lead guitarist, Gareth Price seems destined for bigger things.

Then there is the Blues sampler. Take the second track by the Hideaway Trio. Maybe the vocals could be a bit louder, but just listen to that guitar. You could travel the world and you would not hear anything better. Gareth Price is another Pembrokeshire man

Then it was the de valence for the headline acts for this year.

First up were Tenby’s favourite sons The Hideaway trio.Led by guitarist Gareth Price

, backed by bassist Simon Rees and tom vines on drums. These local boys have been a regular fixture on the Tenby calendar for four or five festivals now. Debuting their eponymous new cd they are now including some own composition material, in addition to their offerings of power based, blues-driven covers of srv. Eric Clapton, jimi Hendrix etc.

There is a strong local following at the Valero stage and hideaway trio rise to the occasion once again with a taste of bb king. The live sound is powerful and good with Gareth handling the vocals and it is pleasing to see how the band have grown over recent years

Hideaway Trio
Hideaway Trio are a power trio who blend Blues, Rock and Soul/funk into a sound of their own, working out of Haverfordwest in South West Wales. The band are favourites on the Welsh blues scene having chalked up 5 consecutive annual appearances at The Tenby Blues Festival which underlines their local popularity. I talked to Gareth Price founder member and, frontman guitarist vocalist at the Tenby gig about their newly recorded self-issued CD which contains 3 original blues tunes – Sad Days, Moving and Boot Valley penned by Gareth together with a good mix of electric blues / roots covers by luminaries such as BB King Sonny Boy Williamson, Ray Charles together with a smooth instrumental version of the Jimi Hendrix classic Little wing. Gareth’s influences lie strongly in the playing styles of (amongst others) Clapton, SRV, Hendrix which together with gospel, soul and funk genres drive the band’s primary sounds and feel. Providing the foundation of the rhythm section are Tom Vine on drums and Simon Rees on bass pulling together the band’s driving power trio flavour which comes through very strongly on the album. As a first CD this gives a good representation of the band’s flavour, a fully commercially produced recording would help bolster the mix and beef up the vocals a bit. The boys should focus on continuing to write more of the original material which will place them ahead of the game against the usual cover style blues bands.
